Shantina cried the entire ride back to her mother's home. Her mother let her know she'd had every intention on leaving her in jail over-night but only came to get her because of her grand-children. The minute she walked into her parents home Shantina played with her children a few minutes before her mother called her into the kitchen for a sit down talk.

“ Now this is what I want to know. What in the hell possessed you to abandon your three month old child with a total stranger? It must be the bi-polar talking because that was crazy as hell Shantina! Antonio came by to see me this morning.” her mother said.

“ When is he bringing Jada home?”

“ He's not! Get your head out of the clouds young lady. You need to realize you fucked up! Unlike those other two men that got you pregnant and ran off. That young man loves his child. To be honest right now it's a good thing Jada is with him. I completely support him having temporary custody of her. I'm also not going to tip-toe around the fact I told him if he needs me to testify on his behalf or write a statement I damn sure will.”

“WHAT! Mama why would you help Antonio steal my baby? You're my mother! Why would you do this to me?”Shantina cried.

“ You're damn right I'm your mother! But your daddy and I are the only other stable people your other two kids have in their lives right now. Now Shantina,you may be upset with us right now but your daddy and I talked about it this morning. We think you need to give us temporary custody of Jarvis and Uniqua while you get yourself on track. I had a mind to leave your lil ass locked up until you were back on track with your medication.” Gloria said sadly but firmly.

“ Mama please! Don't do this to me again! Please! I need you right now!” Shantina pleaded sobbing uncontrollably.

“ Baby I know you. I know what you did. You stopped taking your medication when you got pregnant with Jada didn't you?”

“ Yes.” she sniffled. “ I didn't want those pills messing my baby up.”

Gloria just sat back in her chair and sighed. She'd gone through this every time Shantina got pregnant. She'd stop taking her medication stating it was for the health of her baby but neglected to go back on after she'd given birth. Shantina was always under the impression that just because she managed to do okay off her medication during her pregnancy it would last. It never did. Postpartum depression would kick in then the highs and lows of her bi-polar disorder would begin...again. As long as Shantina had been diagnosed,she still hadn't faced the reality that this was a life long diagnosis for her. The only way for her to stay on track was to take her medication daily...no matter how good she thought she felt. If Shantina wanted to play around with her personal well being she was an adult.
